Really don't know on this one. I doubt anything would be any different in the wine industry as it is today. Of course WS and WE would have less competition. The Advocate would not exist, but there are other critics that would certainly be able to fill Parker's shoes. Only the name on top would change.
I agree... it wouldn't take long for someone else to fill his shoes but more importantly, how do you think wine would taste... any different? Less oak?
Wine would not taste any different, because there is no Parker. At least I hope not, I love oaky wines.
It's funny you say that because I actually like a lot of the same things that Parker enjoys too!
Maybe Parker is actually some sort of wine messiah. :) Nah!
Cheers!
Love or hate Robert Parker, he is an important figure in the wine world. Mr. Parker coined the phrase "Super Tuscan", he also brought change to the filthy conditions in some of the wineries in Spain and France. Robert Parker also reinvigorated interest in Chateau-neuf du Pape to the American wine drinker.
You are absolutely right... it's amazing how much he has influenced the wine world. Now the question is has the influence been "positive" or just to his particular palate?
Cheers!
It is extremely unfortunate that so many people give him and a couple of others so much power. There are a great many fantastic wines out there that many more people would love but the theses powers that be, will not review them and give an open minded review. Although if you have lots of $$$$ and /or Royal Hospitality these guys "find" space in their publications.
